My Role & Contribution 💡

As the Lead Backend Developer at WBlue, I was entrusted with the critical task of spearheading a complete architectural overhaul of the platform.

The Big Rewrite: Laravel to Express.js

When I joined, the platform was running on Laravel 9. To meet growing performance demands and achieve the low-latency requirements needed for real-time tracking, I led the team in a ground-up migration to Express.js.

• Performance: Achieved significant reduction in API response times.
• Scalability: Decoupled heavy processes using RabbitMQ for reliable background job processing.
• Real-Time Synergy: Implemented Socket.io to provide seamless, live order tracking for users and instant dispatching for drivers.

Understanding the Real World 🌍

One of the most unique aspects of my work on SuruhKami wasn't just technical—it was ethnographic. To build a system that truly works for the people on the front lines, my team and I conducted direct field research.

We spent time interviewing drivers from competing platforms to understand their pain points, navigation habits, and logistical hurdles. These insights were directly translated into the application's logic, resulting in:

• Optimized driver assignment algorithms.
• More intuitive status update flows.
• Frictionless merchant-to-driver handoffs.

• Backend: Node.js & Express.js for a lightweight, non-blocking architecture.
• ORM: Sequelize for robust data modeling and PostgreSQL management.
• Messaging: RabbitMQ for managing asynchronous tasks and high-traffic events.
• Real-Time: Socket.io for live geolocation updates and event-driven notifications.
• Payments: Integrated with Xendit for secure and automated transactions.

The migration transformed SuruhKami from a promising MVP into a robust, production-grade platform. The new architecture not only improved the user experience through faster load times and smoother tracking but also provided the business with a stable foundation to scale their operations across new regions and services.
